Alter Ego

I just like this pic. My hair looks good, I love the pink, and the mirror is lovely. Would have been even cooler If I could figure out how to get rid of my reflection. Ha that would be neato.

My Sister's Keeper

My mom is such a softy. A guy who cuts her grass found these two lil ones when they were maybe three weeks old. I forgot where he found them, but he kept an eye out for the mother to return. She never did. He brings them to my Mom and she takes them in. She did not take them to the local SPCA, she stated "they destroy them pretty fast down there" me:"even the kittens" she said :"yes, they don't keep them long" SIGH.....
So she keeps them separated from her other two cats, male....Rudy and Midnight (supposedly a temporary setup from my Uncle, but Midnight has been at my Mom's for two years now). Rudy and Midnight are both black -one has green eyes the other has light gold eyes. Also, Midnight has Rudy by about 10 lbs too.
So the itty bitties are girls and so cute. They've grown and are very well litter trained. They call one of the cat carriers a bedroom, since they are still small enough to share. One is noticeably smaller than the other. My neice named them after two more recently popular little sisters. Yeah not original at all.
And my Uncle has dubbed them the "TWIN KILLERS", yeah he has a weird fascination with domestic cats. I myself always ask about the "Tit Tats" as we shared a room with them during my recent visit. They are absolutely adorable and so playful. Now the decision is to adopt them out, since my Mom really has no room for FOUR cats and a partially blind, partially deaf, older gray terrier mix pup. They however, do not wish to separate the "girls". So for now they are safe, fed, together, loved and well cared for.

How ya like me now???

This was a 2 month project. I primed it a few days after I bought it. It took me three weeks to decide on the color. A few friends suggested red. I thought maybe a dark pink or pale green. Decided I would not paint the interior. I was thinking of wallpapering it. I chose gray, after my favorite short story "The Sky is Gray". I went on vacation. I came back and found the perfect shade of gray at Big Lots, however it was an oil based paint and I used a latex primer. I decided I did not have it in me to buy a gallon of gray paint, HD did not sell it in quarts. I bit the bullet and went near the spray paint and found the PERFECT gray, bought two cans. Satin Granite to be exact. I prepped my "studio" AKA the balconey and donned a gas mask, this spray paint offers a double coat in one layer, went on nicely and evenly. Spray painted the hardware. Reapplied another gray coat in 48 hours. Brought it in due to rain and noticed a few sparse patches. Asked Alex to pick up a third can. Covered the patches. Took two days off from my project. Reapplied the doors and the hardware. Decided I really like the unpainted interior, I liked the brownish orange color. Added pic, flowers , hid the mags, added my Chinese Junk and THE END.

Gas Face

The color is Satin Granite. However, I ran across another color which I liked best BATTLESHIP GREY at Big Lots $15 a gallon. But it was an oil paint and I had already used a latex primer. Satin Granite was a spray paint, which I rarely use, but the finish was much nicer. I'm not a professional painter, and lack those fluid even strokes. Spray paint is my new best friend. Gotta research "green" spray paint for the next project.

I can't see the forest for the trees

4th of July @ St Augustines. We get there early, it's hot and humid. We find a spot. Spend an hour and a half people watching, chit chatting, taking pics, rolling our eyes as "late arrivers" park they happy a$%es in front of us. It gets dark. The fireworks start. A CLUSTER OF PALM TREES BLOCKS OUR VIEW OF THE SHOW! Ain't this about a ........

I love this pic! I had to make her pose, she was just going to stand there like a dork! lol
I enjoyed the eight hour drive (one way), even though Miss Soon to Get Her Learner's Permit -told me it was only FOUR. Never listen to a sixteen year old. Glad ya'll have a GPS.

IN MY PROJECTS

Another project! Whoo hoo! I found this at a "vintage" furniture shop. Alex says vintage just means more money. Which is right 9 times out of 10. I'm not going to even say what I paid for this. But, it is all wood and not that processed stuff. So if I decide to take it back to the original stage, I can strip it. However, for now it will be sanded, primed, and painted a nice shade of gray. Inspired by one of my favorite short stories "The Sky is Gray" by Ernest J. Gaines. And I'm thinking of painting the hardware white. Stay tuned.....

Pop, Loc and Drop it

This was another attempt to "style" my hair. My hair is getting to the point where it's too long to wear down all the time. It gets in my face. Then it's too short to keep all the locs in a ponytail. So I've been trying twists and partial french braids to alleviate this problem. More "styles" to come.
I'm going on vacation for a week VA then to Atlantic City. I had to put Deena in boarding, cuz I have no friends who want to doggie sit. So I take her and she gets in the car no problem. This is awesome, because for the longest time cars made her nervous. Kinda sad really because the only time I really take her anywhere in the car is to go to the Vet. And she's been going to the Vet quite a bit since she was adopted. I should probably take her to a doggie park soon.
Coming home to an empty apartment is always sad. I miss her alot when shes gone. I'm so glad she's my doggie.

Mean Muggin

This was one of my bday presents. I saw this awesome ship at World Market three weeks ago and told Alex "I want this for my birthday." And he definitely came through on this. Love it. Now I must stop my obsession with knick knacks or any decoration at this time. I must stop! I have to stop! I kinda think the obession comes from not living close to my family, whom I miss seeing and spending time with daily. Being that they are 700 miles away, I attempt to collect items that I adore to replace them. I'm not going on Clean House anytime soon, but I think the time has come to stop completely.

Change of Heart

This table was a dumpster dive, I had my heart set on a round wooden table. It was a bit wobbly and had major table top stains, but I was gonna revamp it. Three months later the love was gone. I had no great epiphany as to how it would look as an after. Alas it was not working.

So we head to Ikea and $100 later I get a RECTANGLE Birch table. It fits much better and Deena keeps my feet warm while I'm on the computer. Also should we get a bigger place and opt for a formal dining table, this table will easily transform into a desk. Cheers!

High Priestess Yahrein

I bought this little ragdoll at Michael's for $2. I was going to attempt to make doll clothes for it and add hair. I think her eyes only face grew on me. I decided she would be Black and I stained her in a coffee and tea mixture. Next time I may try actual dye. Alex said it looks as if I was working Voodoo. You can take the boy out of Haiti ,but not Haiti out of the boy.

Brethren

I love my hair. Natural for 12 years. Loc'd for two years.

Fine dining with my ace.

Ok Deena has been upgraded.

The first bowl was destined to be washed in the bath tub. I'm not sure why it just seemed so yucky. One part was metal and that didn't sit well with me. I mean I don't eat out of a metal dish! Dogfood is kinda like cereal in texture. I don't have a big metal cereal bowl. So I headed to Target and $16 later (I bought 4) and saved my back. Bending over the tub to wash her bowl was getting dangerous on my back. Now I just pop them in the dishwasher. Score !

Soup and a Movie

Thank you.Thank you.
No spend month is officially over tomorrow. But I did it! I paid off two bills, walked into a 70% off store sale and bought nothing! (I really need spring sweaters!), did not eat out at all, no Redbox, window shopped and listened to music-some stores need to sell there music mixes!, read a book (it got better towards the end), took lotsa pictures, cancelled vonage, looked at two townhouses and came up with another 30 day mission. As a reward I am going to see "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and hitting up my fav restaurant for Hot and Sour Soup. **** skipping away signing Gummi Bears theme song......High adventures that's beyond compare.

Leave it to Beaver

Alex can eat meat everyday for everymeal. I however, am completely "meat" out. This is my 6th day making a salad for dinner. Maybe my body simply is telling me, "feed me something else!". I guess this will be a two dinner household for awhile. Nik would be proud of this salad!

Shore of the Sea

Morgan wrote this poem for school, when she was 10 I think, I absolutely love it. I can't remember the assignment, but I've always kept it and now recently had it framed. The frame is just like her-bright and falls down alot. lol

5 hours

I read somewhere that the average woman watches 5 hours of television per day. That doesn't seem drastic at all, then I thought about it:

8 hours to sleep

8 hours of work

1 hour commute for work

1 hour to start the day

1 hour to run errands

1.5 hours to prepare a meal

2 hours to watch a movie......

hmmmmm....

36 C

She smiles for picures. Ha

We had resently decided it was time for Deena to have surgery for her Cherry Eye condition and spaying (no puppies here!). Although I wish she could just tell me whether she wants puppies or not, lol. I fear she will probably have a litter of six and while we would keep one, I'd obsess about finding the others homes.

So we schedule an appointment and Lix takes her, (on my way to work, they have questions, I may as well have taken her myself right?) Blah, blah, blah? "yes" "three months ago" "no change in mood" "no we're not gonna breed her"

So blood work and physical exam are done.

I get a call two days later, bloodwork came back and to call the Vet. Message left on voicemail, I have to wait 12 hours..needless to say sleepless night.

Next day I call at 9:05 am, the recep is a lil bit loopy. He puts me on hold twice. The other Dr. will have to call me back with the results! Look they playing with me now! I had errands to run and I need to know what is going on with Deena!

The other Dr. calls me back in 1.5 hours. She has HEARTWORMS! Lord have mercy.

So we take her back to establish the plan to get rid of those lil boogers and find out my doggie also has an enlarged heart (who bred this afflicted canine?).

So the plan is hatched and the Vet will be all in my pocket for the next four months and my lovely dog will be beat this! She made it through hookworms (that's another story) and can rumble with a snake (another post), she's a warrior.

This heifer just better not chew another one of my bras!

5 days to go!

No spend month! Almost at the finish line. I did so very well.

Little touches....

Red Tassel completed, this was actually quite fun to make!

wooden scorpion $2 from Michael's.It's a puzzle. I'm gonna stain and seal it.
My lovely collection of Black Angels (the three on the right were caucasian first, I painted them lol)

No Spend Month!

Ok I returned the Cool pix--it wasn't so great after all. I am still looking for a new camera. Also, I have jumped onto the bandwagon and become a member of the NO SPEND MONTH...crew. Yes, starting April 1st 2009, I will not spend money on anything--except--food and gifts (Easter). No matter if I have a coupon, it's the last one, "I really need this", "I really like it", 70 % off sale, going out of business sale, you get the point. It's been hard here at day 5...lol. My only saving grace is I have a few gift cards to work with. Yes I added that new rule to my version of the game. Gift Cards are allowed. Oh also I lost five lbs, can do 10 girl pushups, 2 boy pushups, and can jog for three minutes and not feel like I'm about to pop a lung.

Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned.

No I have not abandoned you. My wireless has been fickle and Alex dropped my camera. I hate not being able to take pictures. So the camera turns on and off. However, the lens is stuck in the out position, and the screen shows a fuzzy view. Oh well, my mom bought me another one--- Nikon Coolpix---trying it out to see if I really like it for the price. lol Other than that life is good.

Carolina In My Mind

I am a mountain girl. I am a forest, bird, tree, grass, trail girl.
I don't really like the beach. I like the pool, but not the beach.
Give me a creek and some rocks.
You can be on a mountain and feel as if you are all alone. I like silence.
I lost my glasses in the ocean once. My sister had to drive home. The replacement glasses set me back $250.
The ocean is sand and sky.
I think the mountains are a better backdrop.

ACCCKK!

What the ham sandwich makes this stuff taste so awful. Bleehh! And the taste lingers. Should have known to wait and buy the other flavor. The berry was stocked and the lemonade was sold out. Twice a day. Like drinking that awful Thermaflu. *gag reflect*

Touch me, Tease me feel me and caress me--

Lookit! I bought for Lix for Valentine's day. I was so excited! 16 Gs baby! not 8Gs but 16Gs. He wanted one for Christmas, but with the economy going the way it was going, I wanted to be sure I still had a job for the long haul. I'm safe for the 1st qtr that is. So I researched and researched and made my purchase. This lil gadget is truly cool, so many apps! I rarely buy items such as this, and I forgot about the warranty, but the sales guy said I could come back within 90 days and have it added. I did it all by myself and he was none the wiser. I am my own Hero. 16Gs baby!

$11 splurge

Our balconey receives direct sunlight here in sunny Florida, so I made a break for Home Depot and purchased some outdoor rug material. The heat or even a cold spell can make the wood almost unbearable on the tootsies.

When I added this I was so happy I could enjoy my lil balconey barefoot. Everyone here at the complex have their own version of an outside room. Hammocks, bistro sets, lights, grills, potted plants, etc. 6.5' x 11.5' of pure outside enjoyment.

I'm Building My Dream Home

Yep, three stories, bay windows, attic, wood floors, four fireplaces...all of that! lol Still working on the room colors. I can't decide on a dollhouse imagine when I really do buy a house.

SETBACK IS A SETUP FOR A COMEBACK

I remember when I was around 8 or 9, my Mom attempted to teach me how to crochet. She would crochet blankets mostly, ie: lapghans, full size, throws and baby. We had a session and she was very patient and I on the other hand could not grasp the concept. I was completely angry that the whole half double crochet instruction was not turning out a blanket that closely resembled one of her creations. My mom told me just be patient, take your time, you can try another pattern. I declared very fed up and angrily that "I won't learn then."

This occasionally became my motto. Once I failed at something, it was hard to think I'd accomplish anything. I have failures and accomplishments. The failures sometimes completely overshadow the great moments. It can weigh my spirit down and my faith in myself. It can take me back to a time I was not a success at some random task. You are you're own worst enemy, for sure.

Once I failed at something, it was hard to think I'd accomplish anything. Repeating that helps me focus on rebounding back from that failure and taking a different route to success or looking at it from another level. My spirit may break many times. I try to remember that when it does, giving up for a time my make the comeback that much more greater.
